Last term, the minimum wage law was repealed. The Republican Senate this term would not allow us to reinstate it. Without it, we have to use the federal minimum wage, which is well below the cost of survival in this state. Citizens living under survival-wage level have to depend on government services and our local non-profits to obtain enough food, medical assistance and shelter, thus increasing the profits of the businesses that pay cheap wages at the expense of our local property taxes and state and federal taxes.
